Will Instagram’s New Feature Help Stop Cyberbullying? Keep Check on Child’s Device through Android Parental Control App

Cyberbullying on Instagram is increasing day by day and the majority of victims are among kids and teenagers. However, an announcement is made by Instagram on a plan to tackle cyberbullying.

Instagram is a popular photo-sharing website where thousands of brands and individuals take part to get brand recognition and personal recognition. The newly introduced feature of Instagram would prevent cyberbullying and will improve its reputation. Here are a few of the anti-bullying features on Instagram that every parent must know. Without further ado, let’s get started.

Away Mode

Using the away mode on Instagram will allow users to temporarily leave Instagram if they are facing any issues on it. Moreover, the user can also set a limit on how much another user can contact you.

Nudge Tool

There is also a tool that comes when commenting on a post. The feature uses machine learning to identify when a user is about to make a comment that is inappropriate or indecent. The nudge will be sent to the user to warn them not to send the message.

With the help of this feature, Instagram believes that people will think for a while before taking any actions and reflecting on their character.

Will the Features Solve the Problem of Cyberbullying?

To some extent, yes the cyberbullying problem will be solved. However, according to Sameer, the co-director of Cyberbullying Research Centre, this will prove to be an effective tool. It is not only anti-bullying a tool that Instagram owns. In fact, in 2017, comments were hidden from the users by switching on the Filter setting in the kid's Instagram account. The comments can’t be seen by anyone except the person who wrote it.

Instagram is introducing all of these features that ensure safety. However, the question remains the same, whether it will be effective or not. Instagram didn’t answer the question.

It might not solve the problem of cyberbullying completely, but still, it is a good step taken by the company. While the problem cannot be resolved completely, there are few steps that can be taken by parents to ensure the safety and protection of children against cyberbullying.
